A completed look at the newest Master Bedroom + Bathroom addition in Downey, Ca.

In early 2016 my sister and brother in-law approached me to help them in the design of their dream Master Bedroom suite. This had been something we'd spoken about a few years prior and I was happy to hear they were ready to get started.
The plan was to extend the current Master Bedroom and construct a Bathroom addition. The bathroom being an addition to the home gave us freedom to design the floor layout to nearly anything we wanted. I began illustrating a few different floor plan layouts for them to visualize the space. The third option included a standup shower and a soaking tub within one designated area, a walk-in closet and an open space for the double vanity area -which they loved!

Next on the agenda was to finalize the overall style, which would be a shiny "modern glamour" look.

We explored the look that a tile material would create in the overall space to reach our "glamour" style and decided to use a Carrara marble tile throughout. A basket-weave pattern on the floor was integrated into the design with a black liner to create a border around the accent. A narrow 24-inch tile-in drain was chosen to be inconspicuous within the overall marble design.

[18x18 tiles at flooring] [12x12 mosaic tile sheets at flooring accents] [6x12 tiles at shower/tub walls]

The tub countertop is fabricated and installed in a white Quartz stone to contrast the marble.

Two niches were framed-in and created for housing everyday bath products. One above the tub and the other at the foot of the standup shower.

Modern plumbing fixtures were chosen from the "Alteo" collection by Kohler, in a brushed nickel finish. The plumbing also includes a rain shower head and a 66-inch "Tea for Two" soaking tub by Kohler as well.

The bathroom vanity was designed with "his and hers" double sinks with a tall tower at the center of the vanity for daily use and storage. The cabinet style was to be simple using flat, Shaker-like panel fronts of Maple wood. We finished the custom cabinetry with a white satin lacquer application. A Quartz stone in white was fabricated and installed at the vanity countertop, giving an all-white overall design to contrast with the marble in the room. Lastly we installed round clear crystal-like knobs to incorporate our modern glamorous look.

A frameless glass encloses the shower and tub area with simple brushed nickel finished hinges and pulls.

An opaque pocket door entry divides the bedroom creating privacy from the bathroom.

A gorgeous glamorous tufted wingback bed frame in grey is the main focal point in the bedroom.

Mirrored bedside tables and a tufted bench are accompanied by glamorous styled art and decor to finish the room.

This project has been such a great experience in designing and pleased to say the homeowners are happily enjoying their new dream Master Bedroom & Bathroom suite.
